David Merino Río

David started off as a chef from a very young age in the city of Edinburgh (Scotland), where he worked for a year. However, he decided to come back to Spain and enrolled in cuisine studies in Santo Domingo de la Calzada (La Rioja).
His journey led him to Malaga. Its weather and natural beauty charmed this young man, who decided to spend a few years in the city and eventually acquired in Malaga the biggest part of his professional experience.
After working as a chef for over 6 years with a wide range of culinary influences such as the Japanese, the Italian, the Mediterranean and the South American, he is ready to keep on learning from new cultures, traditions and gastronomy from all around the world.

Elena Turatello

Her college education took Elena to Malaga, where she fell in love with the natural charm of the city.
She started her professional career in a renowned Japanese restaurant in the centre of Malaga with David, where they discovered that they could achieve great things together, bonded by their passion.
This is how DETAKO was born, with Elena leading the service and David as a chef.

For me, cuisine is “my great interest, the craftship of the artisan, a passion, an art… and there are not enough words to describe how I feel in it”.

I get to express my happiness in my meals, in the tastes I cook, I try to get to the most sensitive point of the diner with unforgettable bites, small delicacies that will transport you to your childhood, to a specific moment, to your grandma’s dish, the taste of your mom’s stew with the main ingredients: love, perseverance, effort.
I love to get this feeling with my dishes and getting my customers to feel moved with it is a source of pride for me.

My cuisine is hard to label. Although I have a certain Japanese influence due to my past as a sushiman, I love to mix all kinds of flavors from all over the world to create innovative meals. I also enjoy playing with traditional dishes and turning them upside down to make them original and fun for your senses.

We are based in the capital of Malaga, but our reach expands over the entire province.
As of now we collaborate with
El carligto, a luxurious “cortijo” located in Axarquía.

We will host events outside Spain that we will gradually present. For that reason, we don’t rule out the opportunity to reach any corner of the globe.
